NEW SINGLE - ALL GIRLS HAVE A VOLVO..........................................................................101
January 2009..... |
|
Happy
New Year!
In
the slipstream of the recent album, The Satellite Junkyard,
the Cuban Boys have just finished recording a hot new
single called ALL GIRLS HAVE A VOLVO. A track which
will leave your mouth wide-open with its sheer naughtiness,
it is classic Cuban Boys.
Rather
excitingly, B.L.Underwood has returned to guest on the
single, adding some of his customary guitar to provide
a little extra turbo to the sound. The boys have completed
some additional mixes and DJ Koroshi has also provided
a floor-thumping remix.
Promos
will be sent out in December / January - with a release
date set for January 2009.

GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES PLEASE!.................................................................109
November 2008..... |

A new tune is currently being developed by the band
in their swanky bunker. It is still a prototype but
the boys have been seen driving around with beaming
grins whilst tooting their horns. What can it all mean?

SWEDISH RHAPSODY IN THE USA....................................................................................103
November 2008..... |
|
The Cuban Boys have just been approached by Ninthwave
Records in the USA to include 'Swedish Rhapsody' from
'The Satellite Junkyard' on a forthcoming dance compilation.
The band were unaware that the waltz was big on the
dance scene again but they are right behind the idea.

10TH ANNIVERSARY OF JOHN PEEL'S FIRST
PLAY ..................................................................121
July 2008..... |
|
OK, today is quite a poignant moment for the Cuban Boys
as it marks the 10th Anniversary of the bands' first
ever play by John Peel. It was also the first ever play
of the Cuban Boys anywhere.
As
the band explain "We sent John Peel a one-off cdr
featuring 'Cuban Boy', our first ever recording, in
the hope that he might like it. Just a few days later
he was playing it to the nation on BBC Radio 1 and this
started a wonderful friendship which lasted beyond our
gatecrashing of the UK Charts. John was there right
at the very beginning, and he was still there supporting
us at the end. We still miss him every single day."

OUT NOW - THE SATELLITE JUNKYARD....................................................................................112
July 2008..... |
|
We are glad to announce that THE SATELLITE JUNKYARD
is now available on cd from the online store. The 45
minute recording features a glorious mix of old and
new tunes within a mysteriously twisted conceptual framework.
Highlights
include the John Peel Tribute track (The Nation Needs
You), the re-vamped version of the Theme For Prim &
Proper (Sorry!), the conundrum of a Festive 50 favourite
(The Vinyl Countdown), and an updated version of the
band's popular theme to the BBC TV Show, Still Game,
(Cuban Boy).
Also
there's room for the popular YouTube hit (Wacky
Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man), sumptious
French electro-pop (Claudine Is Blue), and the two bonkers
singles
(Spooky! and The Penthouse Messiahs).
In
a happy coincidence, BBC2 are showing Series 2 of Still
Game at the moment.

STILL GAME & WACKY....................................................................................................110
September 2007..... |
Sorry
it has been so long since the last update, the truth is
that the Cuban Boys have been formulating their blueprint
for modernising the modern world and, in doing so, they
discovered that some their rockets were
indeed retro!
Since the last update, the domain name has changed to
www.thecubanboys.co.uk and some sparkly new content has
been added - including archive video and mp3 download
zones. Which leads nicely into....
|
| |
 |
Following
another series of the cult TV comedy, Still Game,
being shown on BBC2, the band have received loads
of requests about the theme tune - Cuban
Boy.
As a special favour, it has been included as a free
download in the new Vault of the Cuban Boys section
(or check out the Still Game section) - it is possible
the boys might even consider releasing it along
with the other mixes they have stockpiled over the
years. |
|
| |
|
The
snappily entitled Wacky Waving
Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man video has
become a bit of a favourite on Youtube (currently over
19,000 views) - so that might be added as a track to
the forthcoming album. It was just another of those
fun, spur of the moment things which the boys often
do - but it appears to have become quite popular.
The
Penthouse Messiahs single is still in the
pipeline, but as we all know, the soviet pipeline is
vast and very, very secretive.
|
|
|
NEW MIXES, NEW STORE & MORE.....................................................................................123
February 2007..... |
|
The
Cubans have now almost completed five mixes of The
Penthouse Messiahs track and plans are being made
to possibly get a couple of dance remixes done by some established
djs. Apart from the music, the boys have been on a bizarre
photo shoot in Moscow and have also produced some smart promotional
material in preparation for the single. The scene is being
set for a nice campaign for early-Spring.
As
you might have noticed, an online store has now been added
to the website, along with a blog and a couple of new links
to Blu's music projects. The store will be handy place to
buy both new and old Cuban releases, including the band's
other projects - keep an eye out for new additions soon.
This leads nicely into the news that Ricardo has released
a wonderfully diverse solo album called INTERROBANG
which is available for download via
iTunes or through the new store. Go buy it now!
|
|
FORTHCOMING SINGLE 'THE PENTHOUSE MESSIAHS'........................................................127
January 2007..... |
|
Ricardo
and Skreen have been busy in the studio over the last couple
of weeks finishing off Rocky Top
and nailing down a definitive mix of
The Penthouse Messiahs. The plan with The Penthouse
Messiahs track slightly changed as the boys decided to work
on it themselves, and they are so excited about how it sounds
that they have decided to make it the Cuban Boys' first single
of 2007.
It
is expected that an extended mix plus some remixes will be
made available to accompany the main single mix. More news
will follow soon.

SPOOKY! HALLOWEEN SPECIAL.......................................................................................1121
October 2006..... |
|
As
a special Halloween treat, the Cubans have uploaded Spooky!
as a free download single.
In the last couple of days both John Kennedy at Xfm
and Phill Jupitus at BBC 6Music have played it on their
radio shows and the response has been frighteningly positive
- wooooooooo!
There
is also an extended version with added terror - as you can
hear, the boys had a real scream making it.
Check
out the front page to download the mp3 or listen online.

|
UPDATE ..... ........................................................................................................................1105
August 2006..... |
|
Well,
it has been quite a long time since the last update - that's
mainly because Ricardo has been extremely busy post-Eurovision
Song Contest and also it felt like a good time to crack-on
with a few improvements to the overall look and content of
the website.
Since the last update the Cubans have recorded the basic demo
versions of two new tracks - Spooky!
and Rocky Top. In particular,
Spooky! might be of interest as it is the re-working of one
of the first few tracks the Cubans ever tackled. Finally,
after all these years, the boys think they've cracked it -
it certainly sounds like a belter. Rocky Top should also delight
those folk who enjoyed Foggy Mountain Breakdown, say no more.
The Cubans have also sent their crazy Japanese friends, Astro-B,
an invitation to mangle an old tune called Penthouse
Messiahs' Theme - so, expect to hear
much insanity soon.
Finally,
talking of theme tunes, you might have also caught the latest
series of Still Game on BBC2 recently - as ever featuring
the Cubans' much-loved theme tune Cuban
Boy.

in this blog message found out there in cyberspace:

PEEL DAY........ ....................
..........................................................................10
September 2005..... |
|
The
BBC have announced a special day of events on October 13th
to celebrate the life of John Peel.
The Cuban Boys have been approached by various departments
at the BBC and are joining in with a host of activities, including
a contribution to a radio documentary about John Peel which
is due to be aired as part of the Steve Lamacq show.
The band have also been invited to provide some candid Peel-related
photos for a forthcoming BBC John Peel website which will
focus on the bands who recorded sessions for his show.
The official BBC John Peel Website will go online soon. If
you have any pictures of him that you wish to contribute,
email them to:
ania.dabrowska@somethin-else.com
before 15/09/2005 with your name,
and information about when and where it was taken.
The band themselves have decided to prolong their 'Play It
For Peelie' campaign and will be encouraging djs and fans
to download and then blast out their John Peel tribute tune
THE NATION NEEDS YOU on
October 13th as a 3 minute anti-silence.
All the Cuban Boys ask is that you PLAY IT FOR PEELIE.
|
| PLAY
IT FOR PEELIE on AUGUST 30th........
.................... .............................................20
August 2005..... |
|
John
Peel would have been 66 years-old on 30 August. Usually, in
the weeks just before every birthday he would drop unsubtle
hints to his listeners hoping to be unexpectedly
showered with good wishes and gifts when the day arrived.
John came to expect a gift of song from his much-loved favourites,
the Cuban Boys, and this year the band has decided to carry
on this tradition by marking Johns birthday by asking
DJs and fans to spin their special tribute song THE
NATION NEEDS YOU for John around the time of his birthday.
All the Cuban Boys ask is that you PLAY IT FOR PEELIE.

tune for this show, it was actually the first recording they
ever made, the much-loved 'Cuban Boy (Cuban Boys Go Boom!
'98 Mix)' which appeared on their 'Blueprint For Modernisation

| THE
NATION NEEDS YOU HITS THE AIRWAVES .................................................................15
July 2005..... |
|
Over
the last few weeks the Cuban Boys have started sending out
a limited quantity of promo copies of 'THE
NATION NEEDS YOU' to various radio djs and the
response has been magnificent.
Firstly,
Rob da Bank premiered it on his BBC Radio One Show,
enthusiastically announcing 'The Cuban Boys are back!'.
Soon after The Cuban Boys nearly fell off their luxury yacht
when they heard that Phill Jupitus had also played
it several days in a row on his BBC 6Music Breakfast Show.
Even more amazing was the fact that Phill hadn't even been
sent a promo copy yet, he'd simply downloaded it from this
site and then burnt it to CDR. How's that for dedication!
In
true 'sweeping the nation' style, 'THE
NATION NEEDS YOU' has also been supported with
plays by John Kennedy - Xfm and BFBS, Steve Lamacq
- BBC Radio 1, Andy Kershaw - BBC Radio 3, and Marcelle
van Hoof - Another Nice Mess (Holland).
In
an amusing act of unpaid promotion, on the Sunday night at
Glastonbury, Phill Jupitus played it to Emily Eavis from his
jeep stereos. Whether the Cuban Boys will be invited to headline
Glasto in 2007 remains a mystery.
|
| CUBAN
BOYS RETURN WITH JOHN PEEL TRIBUTE |
|
The
Cuban Boys return after a few years of dormancy with a new
track called 'THE NATION NEEDS YOU'
- a special tribute to their friend and longterm champion,
the legendary DJ John Peel, who died in 2004.
In
1998, John Peel gave the band their first ever radio exposure
and through his continued love and support, the Cuban Boys
somehow managed the unique achievement of being voted Number
One in the Festive 50 whilst also battling with the likes
of Westlife, Sir Cliff Richard and John Lennon in the UK Charts.
|
|
Being
keenly aware of John Peel's appreciation of STATUS
QUO's 'DOWN DOWN' as a tried and trusted floorfiller,
the Cuban Boys have married it with some poignant samples
of the great man himself to create 'The Nation Needs You'.
As you would expect, it is an absurd clash of styles which
teeters between chaos and insanity.
As
the Cuban Boys explain 'We tried to capture the spirit of
a John Peel Show within a three minute romp - 'The Nation
Needs You' is just our way of saying thank you to a great
friend, and we hope it will also work as lasting memory for
some of his regular listeners'.
The
Cuban Boys hope John Peel would have approved.
